Thanks for all your advice. I have E-mailed the seller and attached photo's of the damaged item and asked for a full refund. I will report back with an update.0

1) Have you checked the sellers terms of despatch for e.g. Standard posting or insured posting? If it was standard and you either didn't check or email the seller to ask, unfortunately it's your fault. I admit the seller should be more repsonsible and choose a safer method of transport, but in the end if they have put a delicate item up for sale. Sold it to you, you have paid and they have despatched it. The most you can expect is a 50/50 blame/responsibility.
2) This has nothing to do with Paypal they are only concerned with the actual transaction of money and goods. Not for how goods were despatched.Yellowlawn

Sorry but I completely disagree. Any insurance would only protect the seller, so it is immaterial what postage methods were offered and/or chosen by the buyer. I ocassionally sell a bit of china and fully understand the risks I take if i choose to send it s a parcel or even 1st class standard mail, I do not expect my buyer to twist my arm to send it at considerable expense to be insured against damage.
I also assume you are not familiar with paypal otherwise you would know that they do cover a buyer, to varying degress I admit, against damage or receiving an item not as described.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Well not quite the final outcome but here's the lastest.
After much discussion between myself and the seller which was going nowhere. I raised a paypal dispute. The seller has offered me half my money back but not a full refund. the seller is standing firm on that the item was pack adequately for transport. I disagree with the seller. Do I hold out for a full refund or should I accept the partial refund?0 -
it obviously wasn't packed adequately if it arrived broken
wait for a full refund from paypal0
