I will be soon (it better be bloody soon
) be moving in to my own house for the first time. It's a 2 bedroom house with just 3 other rooms other than the bedrooms. Basically after reading all the boards there is obvious savings to be made from switching but there seems to be no sites telling you the best deals when your not switching. Most seem to be comparisions on the amount of use but I don't have any as I've never done this. So can anyone help me to try and get the best Gas, electric and water suppliers
thanks.

Personally I'd sign up for dual fuel (tends to be cheaper) with one of the gas/elec suppliers that usually scores highly in the cheap stakes (Atlantic springs to mind), get the free champagne  and stay with them for a few months. Most switching sites give you an 'I don't know my usage' option. When you've got a few bills, you can look at switching again if another company comes out cheaper given your actual usage.
With water, if you don't have a meter already then the rule of thumb is to switch to a meter if you've more bedrooms than people. Most water companies have a calculator on their websites that helps you work out whether it's worth getting a meter.
Best of luck in your new house.0 -
Thanks a lot I'll take a look at Atlantic and I'll find out if they have a water meter already.0

All you need to do is put down, say, BG standard dual fuel on the comparison website and 'invent' a figure for annual consumption in kWh.(if the previous occupants or utility company cannot tell you last year's consumption)This will give you the cheapest company. I would use a figure of 3,500kWh for electricity and 25,000kWh for gas.
You will not go far wrong for the first year to go to Ebico.0 -
thank you both of you0

Don't forget to take meter readings and register with the current supplier when you move in, even if you are switching.0
