Painting Kitchen Cupboard Doors

Hello,

I'm looking for advise on the best way to paint my dark wood kitchen cupboard doors white. I think they are just MDF with a laminate coating.

I've seen cupboard paint from Crown in B&Q, but after doing some research online from other forums they give the impression it's not very good. It's better to use a standard water based wood primer followed by an wood oil based undercoat and then using a satin or eggshell top coat. All after giving it a good sand down of course.

Anyone used cupboard paint before?

Never used cupboard paint, just used a standard oil-based eggshell put on with a sponge roller... I primed with International Melamine primer and then the eggshell. Advantage of eggshell you've got a wider range of colours or get the Dulux colour mixing one...
Sugar soap the units before priming to get rid of grease etc. My cupboards ended up looking fab AND I could use anything I liked to clean them as the eggshell surface was really durable. I didn't use an undercoat at all and just a very light sand to key the surface.

    Thanks for the reply sallyrsm.

So did you not sand them down, just washed with sugar soap then straight to the international primer?

EDIT: Ah you said you gave them a light sand! Sorry

sugar soap and a good sanding down.
then use the correct melamine primer. after that you can use almost any paint you wish.
to go from dark wood to a light color will take many coats. i used about 4/5/6 coats. cant remember now.
    from dark wood to cream.

remove the doors and paint whilst flat. use a small roller. makes life easy.
    Get some gorm.
