Worrying myself to death - registered as director to dissolved company....

Hi all, first time posting over here, I'm usually found loitering around the DFW board - so hello!

I have recently realised I am still registered as director/secretary to an ex partners limited company. The company name was registered in 2006 but NEVER traded, there were, therefore, no accounts filed.

I can see the company was dissolved in 2008 due to lack of accounts/trading.

I left my ex partner in 2007. As far as I know there are no loans, credit cards etc linked to the company, there is also no mention of the company on my credit report.

Ideally I would love to get my name removed from the company altogether, dissolved or not, but I suspect this is either hard work, or just not worth it due to it being dissolved.

I am worried as my current partner and I are in the process of applying for a mortgage, will this directorship flag up anywhere?

Can anyone advise if still being registered as a director/secretary will cause me any problems?

Many thanks in advance.
Here to offer help and advice, and maybe take a little in return.

Hi RedTulip, and welcome to the board :hello:

I could be as confused as you appear to be, but let's see if I can help a little.

You say the company never traded and hence no accounts were filed?
All limited companies must file annual accounts, even if dormant or non-trading.

This is presumably why the company ended up being struck off. Companies house applies to strike off companies that do not comply with their rules/the law. Not submitting annual accounts and/or annual returns is the usual reason.

Now the company has been struck off, it doesn't exist. Hence you are no longer a director. There is nothing to remove your name from.

If there is nothing on your credit file now (there typically wouldn't be as you were a director of a company with limited liability so unless you made personal guarantees or did something seriously bad for which directors can be held personally responsible e.g. false trading, then you were not liable anyway), nothing can be added now as the company no longer exists.

    HTH :)

Premier, many thanks for your quick reply.

I wasn't aware of the accounts having to be filed even if the company doesn't trade - shows how naive I was...!

You have put my mind at ease though - I did take the assumption that I couldn't be a director of something that doesn't exist... but was worrying still.

I feel a I breathe again after my slight panic attack over it all - thank you muchly :) x
