£10 to help Transco to do what they should
Just heard on the radio that bills will rise by £10 a year to allow Transco to upgrade/ repair the network.
When are these b*****y compaines going to pay for the upgrading work out of THIER profits, instead of taking it out of the Great British public pocket.
I getting fed up with the "well, take it out of the peoples pocket" culture which seems to growing in this country, instead of finacing it themselves.

Rant over!!!

Makes sense to me that the people who use the network pay for it? 0 -

They keep putting bills up because they can ? Due to weak regulation, corrupt politicians, and an apathetic public.0 -
The Regulator has to give approval for any rises in gas/electricity prices and also controls any charges Transco makes.
It might not want to be what people want to hear, but generally the gas/electricity distribution companies are not making profits:
British Gas have made loss after loss, see:
http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/news/article.html?in_article_id=410994&in_page_id=2
Lots of the smaller companies have simply gone out of business and the other companies are making losses on their gas/electricity distribution business – have a ‘Google’ to see.
The parent companies – e.g Centrica in the case of BG are still making a profit, but the Regulator places restrictions on cross-subsidies between companies.
Transco have indeed made a profit, but as stated earlier their charges are constantly under review by the Regulator.
However we live in a Capitalist society and that is exactly what companies are expected to do – make a profit. If you don’t think they should make a profit and the energy industry should be nationalized you should vote for a Party that has that aim in its manifesto – which rules out Labour, Tories and Lib Dems, although I believe the Communist party might still have it.0 -
Also the energy distribution infrastructure is getting very old, it dates to the 60's and is reaching the end of it's life.
Why hasn't this been done until now. Greed - customers don't want to pay more, companies want to make a profit.
So in the end WE are as much to blame as anyone"One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0
