Woolacombe bay holiday village MSE tips?

Options
Hi folks,

We are off to Woolacombe bay next week. Totally skint! (we had an unexpected £600 car bill, and £200 car tax in one month-nice that the car tax had increased by £10 from the time I got the reminder to the time I paid!)

Has anyone got any ideas for saving cash? We are 2 adults, and 2 preschool kids.

I plan to:

1) Make, freeze and take 3 meals with us (Curry/chilli and somthing else)

2) Make pack lunches/take flasks everywhere!

3) I also saw a tip to take glow sticks to the club at night, so already have some of these.

Any other ideas? I can't find details on what is free activity-wise!

Many thanks!

SFG x

  • go to your local pound shop and depending on the ages of your children, you can sometimes get sticky craft sort of packs, or diarys that they can write down about their adventures, also disposable bbq that you can have on the beach, maybe at evening time, maybe let one of them take photos, per day usual, football, look on the local tourist board, see what they have.maybe have stories about pirates at night time .most of all enjoy yourselves .:j

Do you already own buckets, spades, balls etc? If so, make sure you pack these.

My 5 year old had an 'eye spy at the seaside' book last year. Bought from bookshop for £2.50 but you could make your own to suit your lo's.

They get 'points' for each thing that they find at the seaside - shells, someone playing cricket, kite, rock pool etc etc

Spend hours on this on our beach hol last year. Nice free activity to keep the beach play lasting longer!!
  • We got back from Woolacombe Bay Holiday Village yesterday, it is one of four parks and you can use the facilities on any of them providing you have your pass/wristband. All the swimming pools are free and they are already opening the outdoor pool at the Golden Coast when the weather is nice which has slides etc. Woolacombe Bay Holiday Village has a brand new large childrens play area and lovely crazy golf course (£1 returnable deposit for each putt and ball) with fantastic sea views and picnic tables. There is an open top bus which runs from the park to the beach every hour, it is £4 per person per stay but if you weren't planning on venturing further than woolacombe itself could save some money on parking as the beach car parks are a flat rate of £5. My children are older now but when they were younger loved travelling on the top deck and the bus goes to all the other parks on its round trip so you can use it to go to these as well saving money on petrol. There is actually a walk to the beach but we did this once when one of ours was under 5 and they found it a bit much but again you could always try it then get the bus back later! There is a also a free childrens club in the mornings for under 5's but obviously requires parental supervision. Oh and Golden Coast also has a large indoor soft play area if the weathers not too good. Hope this helps :)

    I've been Money Tipped!
Often the local paper (North Devon something or other) has discount vouchers in, so worth checking that out. If you have Tesco vouchers to use and don't mind dreadful sheepy puns, the Big Sheep at Bideford is worth a look.

Hope you have a good time.....cos The Golden Coast is a dump. Truly awful. Filthy caravans, arrogant staff, greasy chips, awful entertainment, then if you like that type of place you'll have a ball!!

I made the mistake of NOT reading Trip Advisor before going........

now I stick to what I know.
