Peugeot 307 Tyre Size Difference
Comments
-
So long as the load rating (93) in your present tyres case is the same then V rated tyres will be absolutely fine for your car...do check that load rating though, it is vitally important.
Edit...the handbook should give the correct information for speed/weight ratings.0 -
Hi,
I have a Peugeot 307, 1.6 Petrol, Sport, first registered Sept 2006.
It currently has 4 matching tyres of the following size:
205/50 ZR 17 93W.
1 is low and needs replacing, I will also be replacing another which I know to have been puncture repaired by the previous owner and would rather have replaced. The other 2 have plenty of life left (well over a year based on my average use).
However a search of the number plate on Kwik Fits website brings up tyres sized 205/50 V 17.
They are substantially cheaper (about £97 each cheaper) than the direct replacement for the ones fitted at the moment.
I know they are different but assume the size difference is down to the speed rating (is this correct?) - I need to know if it is possible to fit these cheaper sizes to the alloys which currently have the more expensive tyres on?
Unfortunately Kwik Fit are closed now, but I would like to book this evening so I can get an earlier appointment for next week, and also the price to book and pay online is slightly cheaper. I trust my local Kwik Fit.
Kwik Fit do not appear to offer the option of ZR only V,W or Z.
I have looked up the ZR speed code and according to wikipedia its a rating in excess of 149mph.
Any advice much appreciated.
basically the ZR tyre is a performance spec tyre, (that would of been fitted from factory or direct replacement by previous owner), you would get more life/performance from the tyre, as suppose to a cheaper spec one with a lesser speed rating.
you could put any tyre you wish in that size on your car, but i would replace like for like, i have pirelli all round on my car one has a slow pucture that i must sort. and would cost me £150 per tyre. when time comes im going with the continental contisport3 at £123 per tyre to provide me the grip, and durability and performance.0 -
I wouldnt use kwik fit, somewhere like black cicrles or similar0

There is no size difference. Both a are 205mm wide with a 50 profile and designed to fit on a 17" rim. The rest of the numbers and letters have nothing to do with the size.0 -

Ditto:
Have you tried here:

Usually cheaper and books you into a local fitters.0 -
Kwik Fit will charge upwards of £20 too much per tyre.... They'll also try to sell you brakes, shock absorbers and a new exhaust.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

The other letters refer to the load weighting and the speed weighting. Both are important, but your existing tyres may be over-specified for your car. Rather than take these from the existing tyres, you'd do better to see what it says in your manual. Apart from anything else, insurance companies get upset if you fit tyres which don't match (or better) what's in the manual.0 -
For just under £60 Elite in Rainham will fit a Nankang tyre in 205/50/17 V rated, don't know the tyre make but if it is as i suspect the NS 2 then that is actually a decent tyre, had a full set of them on my Subaru Legacy 17" rims, a mat had them on his BMW Z3 2.8, lasted well, plenty of grip wet or dry, and lasted well.
£101 will get you an Avon ZV5 in the same speed rating.
There are other cheaper and a few other budgets, such as Nexen etc.
I have noticed that Elite are always slightly cheaper than Blackcircles and my-tyres etc, obviously I have only checked tyres that I need and family members need, but sometime the internet places aren't the cheapest, the fact that I can get them same day and have them done in and hour while drinking a cup of coffee in the waiting room makes it a no brainer for me, I have used Elite for over 12 years, maybe nearer 15 years.
Pop down and ask for "H".
There level of service is the best I have experienced.0
