Can you claim WTC on a temporary basis?

Have recently claimed TC as a single person with children and been awarded it. At the moment I work fewer than 16 hours a week but due to the various jobs I do which happen on a seasonal basis (exam invigilating and exam marking) I will be working an average of more than 16 hours a week between mid May and mid July and continously between mid June and mid July (ie there will be a week or two when I may not work 16 hours but would be doing more the other weeks).
Am also applying for HB which I presume would go down on increased tax credits but looking at the turn to us website it looks like I would get more money overall if i were to get wtc. Is it possible to claim wtc for a short period of time and then revert to just tc? The overall amount I will earn doesn't change - it is just the seasonal pattern that alters.

I know from exam invigilating i can claim childcare costs if it continues for 4+ weeks. I would assume you need to work 16hrs+ for 4 weeks or more in one go to claim WTC..................
