which is why I encourage plenty of BBQs in our household. 0 -
It will be fine.
Always make sure someone is near the BBQ when someone is running in and out of the house with food, or as you say, put it in the Playpen......or your child in there?
I think I must be a man.....my husband burns it all on the BBQ....then again, that is a typical English BBQ isn't it
 Thank you to everyone!

we have a long fire guard which we put up around the bbq, as although the children have been warned not to touch little ones (and clumsy bigger ones) have a habit of tripping and bumping into things!0

So long as neither BBQ nor toddler are left unsupervised then there will be no problem. Better to educate children about the dangers sooner rather than later.0

My dad arranges tables round his barbecue. Partly to keep his grandkids away from the heat, mainly so he can lay out the meat on trays that he is about to cook. Then he puts a big fireguard round that.
There have never been any accidents and my nieces and nephews love the novelty of seeing grandad (trying to) cook. We make him wear a chef hat and naughty pinny too, poor sod!!!!0 -
My DD is 21 months, and I would just tell her it's hot and to leave it alone. We went to a BBQ yesterday and she showed no interest in it anyway, just wandered off to play with the other children who were there.
Surely you have already had to tell your child the oven is hot, and maybe even radiators, so they have the idea of hot and not touching, so it's just a case of telling them and reminding them if they stray near it.
Unless I have an usual toddler in that she listens to me and quite often even does what I say! But she does understand hot and dangerous and that that means she must not touch. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

I agree with the other posters.
Just tell them it is hot, and supervise them and the barbeque. No need to make a big deal out of it.0 -
