Car purchase on a credit card

I have an M&S credit card with 15 months 0% on purchases. I was just wondering whether anyone has purchased a car using a credit card? Will it be classed as a purchase? The car auction place will charge a 3%(plus VAT) surcharge for using the credit card to purchase the car, but I was just wondering whether my credit card would also charge me a fee for using it or would it be classed as a purchase and therefore 0% for 15 months.
I'm only interested in doing this because we are currently offsetting our savings against the mortgage, therefore I'd rather take advantage of the 15 months 0% if I can.
Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks

It would count as a purchase, so there would be no additional fee from M&S. But before you do this, search the board for sterling travellers cheques. It's been mentioned several times on here and is a way of doing a super balance transfer to your current account with an M&S card. It also counts as a purchase, and the fee for the travellers cheques is 1%, so could save you a bit of cash.0

bought my last car on a mix of credit/debit card (999 on credit card as there was no surcharge for under 1k), and the rest on debit card.
straight forward purchase as far as billing went. It's a health benefit ...0 -

If you have cash you will save the car auction fee of 3% and might be able to do a better deal with them?0
