Hello,
I just thought I'd share my excitement with you.
I have just paid off £755 from my credit card (OK I know its not a lot in the grand scheme of nearly £7k debt but it is a start and for a stay at home mum I feel that this is a good amount to have raised already - please agree with me somebody - if only to keep me in my good mood!!!).
So I really just wanted to share this and hopefully it will give others in the same situation as me (i.e. not working) some hope in clearing their debts too!!!
My lightbulb moment came in October when I realised that as I was not working and had a second baby on the way the debts I had accumilated from being a spendaholic had to stop and had to be cleared.
Since then I have gone through my bank statements with a fine tooth comb and discovered that I had been paying £32 a month for a policy which I had cancelled ages ago as was no longer needed and so after some hard fighting managed to reclaim all overpayments back - its amazing what you can find if you look hard enough!!!!
I've also been ebaying all the stuff I really don't need, sending back what I can to the shopping channels I was addicted too (I don't even watch them anymore so I can't get tempted!!!), mystery shopping, quidcoing and pigsbacking as much as I can (I have just made £10 from pigsback without spending a penny so am well happy!!!) and found the confidence to sell some of my handmade cards and soaps etc on the internet and craft fairs.
So here we are I have raised £755 in two months by the following:-
Oct '06 - Ebay Sales - £29.98
Refund from DD payments - £411.71
Avon Commission - £5.42
Nov '06 - Ebay Sales - £69.44
QVC Refunds - £12.44
Mystery Shopping - £10.00
Avon Sales of old stock - £84.56
Website Sales - £49.75
Craft Fair sales - £82.00
Making a grand total of £755 - I'm so pround of myself.
And the good news is this month I have just got a cheque for some shares I had from a standard life policy which I had never cashed in which has netted me £520, my ebay items are selling well, I have just rec'd another order for my handmade items from website and have also managed to get over £20 off my shopping for month from coupons which I rec'd with freebies (I have also managed to get my monthly food budget down from £400 to £250 so am saving there too!!!)
Sorry it must sound like I'm blowing my own trumpet but I'm sooo happy with myself - now all I need is for hubby to have his LBM and start to clear his debts too!!!!
At least I am concentrating on mine now and havew owned up to the problem and am dealing with it - and it feels great!!!!
So remember there is hope for eveyone out there - although my debts are bad I have accepted I have a problem and am dealing with them - thats a big step I've taken and I realise that now.
Thanks everyone for your ongoing support. :rotfl:

I think you're selling yourself short - it's over TEN PERCENT of your debt. It's a massive chunk and a fantastic achievment.
Well done!0 -
That is an EXCELLENT reduction to your debt mm. You deserve to feel proud. :T :A :TI am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Nice one! :T
Keep going - you're now addicted to *making* money instead of spending it, which is the key to not only paying off your debts but building a better financial future for yourself and your kids.
Give yourself a big pat on the back and remember how great you feel right now.

I agree. Give yourself a big pat on the back, stay focussed, and be smug that you know you are getting there! :beer:0 -

And so you should be!! Well done you :j
Could you tell me more about how and where you sell your cards? It's something I've had in my head but not yet done anything about.OD Girls On TourBarcelona 2008 - Dublin 20090 -
That's brilliant :j. Thanks for sharing.
Sometimes I feel like mine will never go down as OH has had no work for months, so anything I make on ebay etc seems to go to cover his bills. It's good to hear others success stories as it makes me more determined to keep trying. Well done!
