I end up ringing an 0870 number yesterday which last about 5 minutes. At least I have a 18185 account and managed to cut the cost down.

I have also dealt their CS a couple of times for very urgent queries on my account and I must admit that some of them are helpful.

I haven't lost any money with them and I find that their online facilities are very secure. I would again reiterate that if any bank or lender offers a more competitive products than them then certainly I'll be the first one to leave.

Of course, if you really want to annoy the customer services, ask for their full name ;)

I've had problems with them, to the extent that I will be leaving once I've fully exploited them, and my sister's had problems too. She demanded to speak to the supervisor who phoned back later and refused to discuss the issue as they weren't allowed to discuss individual employees. That entire dept should be sacked if you ask me.

I was considering opening an A&L account but i've been put off with all the problems that have been reported. Perhaps the grass isn't always greener. I think i'll stick to my own bank. They don't pay the best rates etc but at least they are reliable :)

But if you withdraw money from your online saver into your AL current account it takes at least overnight to be there "properly" unlike almost every other bank which will do it instantly - This is a pain when trying to feed my IF current account by debit card. So there is the "Extra day"

Erm - well - I've just transferred £2.5k (about 2 hours ago) from my OS2 to my C/A and - while it might not be in the statement yet as a transaction - it's been debited from the OS2 and has affected both the 'balance' and the 'available balance' of the C/A.

I've checked it against a balance on a cash machine too - it's showing there.

Don't see how that's an extra day.

    From the online help files...
From your registered Alliance & Leicester savings account

If you're moving money from your registered Alliance & Leicester savings account to your Alliance & Leicester current or registered savings account, the transfer should take place the same day.
Maybe it depends what time of day you request the transfer (in Tom's experience)?

a bit off topic but as there are so many A&L account experts here is seems like a good place to ask.
and I know I'm being lazy - I expect I could find the info on their website if I looked har enough.

after Yorkshiredude's comment about the 5% current account, does anyone know if the rate will stay at that, once the related regular savers have matured ?

if not staying at 5%, what will they change to ?
Karma is a wonderful thing. ;)

Well ive transferred money into my premier direct ac from the online saver 2 the morning before standing orders are due to be paid and theyve charged me for unpaid transactions because the money still hasnt transferred properly into the account. This is despite showing as available immediately to withdraw immediately after it is transferred.

    From the A&L T&Cs:
22.4 If the cleared balance on Your Account at the start of the day is insufficient to cover the amount of any payments that may be debited to Your Account that day (i.e. cash or cheque withdrawal) We may refuse to allow the payment. However, We do not guarantee that We shall refuse to make any such
payment. We may allow a payment to go through, and You will incur the relevant fees.

And when ever a standing order goes out of my account - it goes out on the morning of the day I've scheduled it to go out - not the evening.

So - I think you're transferring too late.

So the money should be there most of the day before and certainly on the day the SO is paid.
