help finding a cheaper train ticket pls?

Hi

can some one help please?

the information is as follows....

East Croydon to Rye Sussex. Final destination is Camber.
Going out on Mon18 Jul and returning on Fri 22 Jul.
One Adult four kids, using a family and friends railcard.

Best I can find is £31.25 booked via Southern as they give a % off for booking online.

for the fare above on Mon we travel East Croydon - Brighton - Rye. But return on Fri is Rye - Ashford - Tonbridge - East Croydon.

I want to add on the plus bus service as it is cheaper than buying singles to Camber on the Mon and then back again on Fri. So with the plusbus fares for both Mon & Fri the fare becomes £43.65. £6.20 bas fare each day.

Can anyone find a cheaper route?? Have tried breaking the journey etc and not been able to to get the fare any cheaper.

Thanks in advance.

I seriously doubt that you will find a cheaper price - that's dirt cheap to begin with

It's also a flexible ticket - you can use any off peak train on the routes specified, you are not confined to the ones you 'book'. You don't need to buy it in a hurry - it's not quota controlled. Just buy in advance to get the discount

Thanks for taking time to reply.
I was just hoping there might be a slightly cheaper way.
I did East Croydon to Hastings return and the plusbus for just under £24 a couple of weeks ago. That was also for one adult and four kids and going Monday coming back Friday. The downside of that fare was we had to get a certain train (which was no problem really)

So while this train is fleixble I'd prefer inflexible and cheaper:rotfl:but it's handy to know I don't need to book just yet ( am currently skint as usual)

oooo think I've just got it down to £36.50 :rotfl:
    a saving of appox £7.

Done it by splitting my ticket at Hastings, we stay on the same train.

Just wondering if it would be cheaper to get the bus all the way from Hastings to camber but not sure I want to do that journey with the four kids it's rather long:eek:

Oh !!!!!! have given myself a dilemma...

can save another £5 IF we get off the train at Hastings and pick the bus up there.
However this means spending over and hour on the bus each way mmmm me and four kids plus cases... not sure this is such a great idea. Also on the return journey the bus arrives ar Hastings at 12.07 and the train leaves at 12.14. Giving us 7 mins to get from bus to platform....perfectly doable unless the bus is late!!! Of course I could always book us onto the next train but that doesn't leave until 13.14, meaning a wait of appox an hour at hastings station (we did this recently and it really wasn't much fun)

so do I be a money saver and save the fiver? taking the stress and worry of the connections etc and maybe a hours boring wait??
or spend the fiver and get the train all the way to Rye then get the bus?? ( the bus and train times are much better connected at Rye)

You might as well spend the fiver and get off at Rye, easier and at least you are not on the bus for an hour or so. They are well connected, the train gets to Rye at 54 to the hour and the bus leaves at 4/5 minutes past the hour.

Sorry I'm late, just found this by searching under Rye.

    Thanks Tarry

I did buy the ticket thru to Rye. Didn't fancy the bus journey with four boys 15,15 13 & 12 would be pulling my hair out  not a great start or end of the holiday.

Paid £34.10 for the whole journey, including plus bus from rye. Had to break my tickets at rye to get a saving but it's all done and dusted now. Many thanks.

That's not bad anyway, and sorry I was so late, I'm just so busy with work at times. I don't blame you for travelling to Rye by bus, not so long journey.
