Helpdesks often say anything, the technician who gets hold of it won't have the time or inclination to recover your data unless you pay for it.

A hardware manufacturer is unlikely to do anything other than a disk test or factory restore, let it out of your sight, and you will probably wave goodbye to the data. A caddy is cheap, try it before you send it off

    Hi all,
I am new to the forum and have a big problem with my Dell with Vista home edition; basically I got Vista Home Security malware yesterday and tried to clean it up but, unfortunately, messed it all and now my computer wouldn't run Windows, but instead is going in circles - showing the welcome screen, then "please wait Windows is restarting" but nothing comes on. The malware is still in the computer as I did nor really manage to clean it up. I don't want to lose my files, photos, etc. Is there anyone who can help me to save my data and/or to start Windows? Am I in the right forum in the first place?

    Thanks in advance!
