continental airlines no refund

hi,
got a problem booked a flight for our son through (i think it was travel supermarket) flight to Cloumbus airport ohio usa going to washington then columbus from HeathrowTried changing dates continetal would not change it or refund us. They could not do anything so we have lost out. it cost 430 quid They said we would have to buy a new ticket and pay for it in full. So nothing could be done. he was were going to see our other sons graduation. we are still going from Manchester on same dates. Its just that our son has had a change of plan at work. We thought ok keep the same date flying there but pay for a new flight back £630.
Anybody had this or any help in what we can do

sounds like you purchased a restricted ticket (most of us do as they are the least expensive) - so if the airline has said you cannot change then you cannot change...sometimes the type of ticket purchased will allow some types of changes, but you've already contacted the airline and they have said no. The detail would have been in the original booking T&Cs.

Had his work already approved his leave - could he not discuss with his manager that the change of plans will leave him significantly out of pocket and see what could be done?
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

One way flights on https://www.aerlingus.com can sometimes be good, worth checking for the return.

ask the airline if a change of return date is possible once you are in destination. a lot of airlines allow this, even on some restricted tickets, but only after you have travelled - not before.

However, there are always risks involved. The new flight (if allowed to change) must be in the same 'booking class' as the original flight booked. There may also be an admin fee to pay, and it's always subject to availability.

on the other side, doing this could mean you lose out on other cheaper tickets if you cannot find a suitable date to change your original ticket (if permissable).
