Few weeks ago I received a 'Guaranteed Barclaycard Platinum' offer letter.... return within 2 weeks to be guaranteed a card. I bit and was accepted, card arrived and so has the pin, activated, but I have not used it yet.

Having looked at other options such as 'super balance transfers' I am keen to know if this offer letter/application guaranteeing me this card would have done a search on my credit file ?? Im intruiged ??

Many thanks in advance.

Got one of these letters back in Jan, and yes, a full credit search is done. The guarantee originates from their internal assessment of how well you manage your Barclays account (s). A full credit search then tells them what other debts or financial commitments you have and therefore how much more credit they think you can handle/afford.
