Safestyle Uk.... Liars

We desparately want our windows done but even asking all our neighbours, I can't find anyone happy with the service they received.
Safestyle were doorstepping our area and I thought I would get a quote but my OH wasn't around. We gave them a date to come back but then did a search on the internet and didn't like what we found. Despite telling us they would only use our telephone number to arrange an appointment, we were plagued with calls for weeks. They only stopped when I told them we felt we were being harassed by them and would report it as such if they called again.
Seeing as they couldn't even keep their word on a simple thing like that, they could hardly expect us to use them could they.0 -
Hi,
We are looking for a Double Glazing company in North Yorkshire...a Spa town. We are partially double glazed and would like to finish it off. Can anyone recommend a company+0 -
I had the same kind of experience with Coldseal a couple of years ago, they took my deposit and even took payment for insurance against them going bust, of course they did, taking not only my deposit, but the insurance money too. Sadly, I picked them after a personal reccomendation from a friend! I only found out afterwards that it was a different coldseal, they had apparently gone bust and been "bought out" and ressurected. Only advice I can give is to use a small local company, don't pay a deposit and don't expect them to be there in 6 months to a years time to honour any warranty. Most glass and plastic is actually from the same place (the place I used bought glass from Morley Glass in Leeds), so try to make sure you get the details of where the stuff comes from rather than just depending on your installer to honour warranties. I have no complaints about the product, price or service.
Of course, if you are a competent diyer and your house is standard enough, you can get ready made windows to drop into place from b&q and the likes, but that leaves the fensa/building regs issue if you are honest enough to say when the windows were fitted should you ever sell up.0 -
pinkwitch wrote:I would never touch safestyle even if they were the last company on earth. After one of there salesmen wouldn't leave our house untill we signed an agreement ,he was here for nearly 5 hours. We couln't get rid of him, and he told lies, we found out afterwards.
Anyway we signed his contract just to get rid of him and gave him a cheque for a deposit, just to get him out of our house.
And cancelled the whole lot the next day, had quite a few phone calls from them.
Staybright is another company i wouldn't touch.
Exactly the problem that I experienced, he kept talking lies about windows from other companies! So I think I'm just going to order from a small local company and fit them myself if they'll let me!0 -
If your on Scarborough, I recommend Andy Whitelaw, whilst not the cheapest there products are qualityLoveyB wrote:Hi,

Read the terms and conditions on the contract you signed ! Legally if you asked them to call then signed up then no. If you signed the contract as a result of a doorstep visit then you get a 7 day cooling of period.
Why did you sign were they the cheapest quote or the best quality ?"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Optimist - I live on a main road and although I already have double glazing, its with wooden frames and I can hear cars whizzing past every 2 seconds. They showed me the example windows and they looked really sturdy and like they'd block out a lot of sound, plus obviously bamboozling me with stuff about how they use different materials and not rubber for the seals so they're better and have guarantee for 10 years.....
Agreed to £800 including survery and fitting for lounge and bedroom window in the Premium glass, whiite uPVC 1250mm x 1700mm. This sounded reasonable to me but since then I've got some online quotes for around the £400 mark!
Yes I ordered as a result of them arriving on the doorstep. I had to send a cheque for £60 which I doubt theyve banked yet, should I cancel the cheque (costing me money) or are they obliged to return the money if I cancel under Cooling Off period?0 -
I would phone them straight away. Explain you wish to cancel under Consumer Protection (Cancellation of Contracts Concluded away from Business Premises) Regulations 1987 or more commonly known as the Doorstep Selling Regulations. Take the name of the person who you speak to and I would also send your cancellation in writing to back up your verbal instructions. Keep a copy for yourself and proof of posting would not go amiss. If you had planned to pay for it on credit you would generally also have a 5 day cooling of period and canceling the credit agreement would automatically cancel the agreement to buy.
Yes you should get your deposit back"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."
