You do need to declare convictions that have not been rehabilitated if they ask.

I suppose it's part of their risk assessment, they may consider a conviction a displays of bad character thus it may reflect the way you handle yourself with the vehicle on how you use it or what you do with it.

If you do not tell them they may not payout if you make a claim.

    Worth risking?

Aye, I'd imagine a conviction for Drunk and Disorderly, or drugs indicates a risk that could carry over to motoring, any insurance or fraud convictions can be a strong indicator that you're not adverse to trying to screw the insurance company...

If an insurance company asks a question, it's always best to answer fully and truthfully, as the basis of insurance is that they rely on you being honest (they can't do a full individual check for every new customer for various reasons*), and the courts recognise that and thus if at claim time the insurance company finds that you've lied about any material facts they can basically tell you to get lost.

*Cost and privacy being to of the obvious ones.

Insurers dislike any conviction relating to theft or fraud. If you've stolen or scammed someone then the risk of you scamming them is statistically higher.

Sometimes there is'nt enough room in the box to list all non-motoring convictions. If so they said use the Extra Information page at the end of the form. Also it do'nt look so bad if you list convictions under general headings (e.g. theft, drugs, assault, etc.)
