Can I feed raw whole sardines to my cats?

As per the title really.

I picked them up a couple at the fish counter of the supermarket, the lady said the big bone had been taken out and the smaller ones would be no problems for the cats.

I googled just to be sure and found a whole load of confliciting information about cats and raw fish.

Has anyone given whole sardines to their cats?

Obviously if it's a big no no then I don't want to put my pets health in jeopardy.

it shouldn't take you that long to cook them to be on the safe side. try poaching them .

I had to bin them in the end. They hadn't been boned like the lady said, and when I cut the heads off they were all bone. Thought it best not to risk it. Luckily they only cost 50p so weren't an expensive mistake to make!

Seriously the bones in sardines are tiny - & cooked would have been fine for them!

The bones in sardines are softer/smaller than most. What do you think you get in tinned?

I give my lot tinned ones, no worries there apart from the smell!!

as I havent seen any cats out fishing - I suspect that fish is NOT a natural food for cats. saying that - my sons cat adored prawns and I was defrosting some and the cat MUGGED me! knocked the bowl right out of my hands on to the floor..........where he sort of hoovered them up! never seen half a pound of prawns disappear so fast!

I have - with my distant family in a vilage back home. The guys went fishing and the cats would sit by them and wait :)

I have never seen cats hunting pigs or cows or a turkey but they do eat the meat....

Here in Spain it is common to give whole fresh unboned sardines to the cats. However my ´indoor´cats look at them, then me in disgust. The out door cats, just gobble them down and want more

my step mum regularly buys tinned sardines in tomato sauce (19p from asda i think) she just rinses the sauce off and her cats love them.

and yes regularly on hols i have seen cats waiting by the harbour for their dibs on the incoming haul.
