If you want to change your working hours to do your placement, no, they don't have to accomodate this, and they could sack you if you are unable/unwilling to do your usual hours. See what you can negotiate with your boss and ask very nicely, having thought about any potential problems and how they can be resolved.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.
Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
The initial post, the last para, reads as if OP still has the same number of available hours to do the regular P/T job, & 3 days to do them - but not necessarily the usual 3, and it's possible that the '3' may not even be the same from one week to the next whilst on placement.
In which case the answer is no, the company don't have to accomodate you. Heretolearn's advice seems your only option.Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0 -
thanks for your advice, i have to do 32 hours placement in a week,so i have to be there 4 days, these can be different every week and are different shifts,i have my 11 week rota of shifts already,so they know what days i can work.this hasn't been a problem for the last 2 years but seems to be one now,i know the company is looking to make cutbacks maybe this is just an easy option for them.

Could it be that the OP is in the final year of study and therefore would be looking to leave his part time post in the near future to use his nursing degree? I appreciate his work place cant get rid of him on the possibility of him leaving on his own accord in the near future but they may be looking to secure the positions of those employees whose intentions are to stay for the long term with the company.0

so the course dictates times, its not an easy option and the company may play ball and say they will acommidate but at the end of the day if your course is interfering with the job then I would say they have every right to expect you to work shifts when required and if you can't they won't pay you off they will look to dismiss you.
I think you need to look to compromise and for you to be doing all the compromising. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!
