Natwest Step- Account Upgrade?

I've noticed on some of the posts on this forum and on the bank charges forum that some people who have a Natwest Step account have been upgraded to the current account.

Can I ask how people went about this and how long you were a customer for before this happend?

My husband and I have a step account and we pay £2400 approx in each month but we'd prefer an account that gave us a cheque book or Maestro card.

Have had a mixed relationship with Natwest but seem to be on a good footing with them at the moment.

Was just intrigued by people having their accounts upgraded!

When i opened a second account at Natwest i was given a maestro card and chequebook even though no money is paid in and no transactions go through the account from one month to the next! (its purely used as an 'overspill' account') So on that basis you should be able to upgrade to a current plus account

It depends how “mixed” your relationship was in the past. Apart from their internal checks, they are most likely to do a credit check before they come to any decision.

Apply for an upgrade if you feel you have been a good customer to the bank. If they refuse, take your business elsewhere.

If you want an upgrade from a step they will definatly preform a credit check
    For everthing else there's mastercard.
    For clampers there's Barclaycard.
  • My credit is fine but my husband's isn't. He is in a DMP with payplan has one CCJ which is paid off and 3 defaults.

I can open a current account fine but we really could do with something like a joint cheque book.

I'm unsure if he'd pass a credit check, we've always been good customers but we have had bad customer service from Natwest and we have complained to them before now and had compensation.

At the moment, they offered us an upgrade to Advantage Blue, their premium step account but this isn't really what we want and we certainly don't want to pay £6 a month.

We don't want an overdraft but we'd just like a little bit more flexibility.
