silicone grease
Options
Haynes manual recommends silicone grease for the self adjuster's thread inside the brake drums.
What is special about silicone grease for this purpose?
and what would you substitute for it?
I have coppergrease, lithiumgrease & molybdenum grease all of which are high temp
I also have
a silcone PTFE spray and
PTFE grease-free spray up to 250C
The haynes manual also says to apply "a smear of high temperature brake grease" to the shoe/backplate contact points (3 of on each shoe). I'll be using copper on this bit.
Just seems strange that they differentiate between the two greases.

Silicone grease has a fairly high melting point and will not affect rubber seals which is why it is probably advised for this. If there is no possible contact with rubber seals then copper grease is normally used. It now seems that silicone has replaced copper for many applications.0

Silicone grease is waterproof, and won't wash off.
I don't think it dries out too quickly either, so it shouldn't go hard like other greases.
Having said that I normally use whatever I have handy, either copper grease, or whatever I've used on the bearing if I have re-packed them.0 -
Just use copper grease.... It's been proven for many many years.. and used without problems0

I use copper-ease all the time, on brakes, spark plugs and all nuts and bolts that i want to undo at a later stage.0

This is for the thread inside the self adjuster. I think they want silicon because it is waterproof.
The thread is inside a capsule so will not see any dust. copper grease would probably have been fine but maybe IMHO a little too viscous for the job at hand. I sprayed it with silicone spray - job done.0
