I agree - you should contact your creditors and say you need to reduce your payments until you find a job. You should pay all bills relating to the necessities (mortgage, gas, elec..) and then any other creditors will need to take a back seat and should only accept what you can afford.

Not sure if I have the wrong end of the thread so to speak and sorry if I'm stating the obvious but if your incomes goes down and you can't pay back loans, store cards and credit cards the prople to contact are the Consumer Credit Counselling Service https://www.cccs.co.uk

All hapened to me not long ago and they were (are still are great),

Its a long story but I ended up £70K in debt just thru loans and cards and the cccs have set up a debt management plan which means I no longer pay charges or interest and just pay £159 a month to all my creditors, which I can afford.

My credit rating isn't too good these days thought!

    Hope this helps someone somewhere!
  • Thanks clive im seriously thinking of having to contact creditors but am scared theyl start lumping charges on and not accepting what im saying and its all going to spirall out of controll which up untill now it has been managable i been working so hard on bringing cards down and budgeting im scared it all going to rocket again with missed payments and charges etc that il end up owing more. Im really hoping dh will get a job i know he will but realistically its not looking like it will be till new year agencies go dead with engineering right now factories close down for a week or two then he has to go to the interview and work a week in hand etc maybe monthly pay .
  • ps: a big thankyou that web site looks very interesting, and i think i may give the cccs a look to.
Much thanks, always appreciated knowing someones has read my post and listened

I know that it is probably a drop in the ocean just now, but you needn't go onto emergency tax because your previous employer hasn't sent your P45 yet. Get a copy of form P46 from your new employer and fill it in. You won't go onto emergency tax that way.
  • Rinkydink, just wanted to say fingers crossed your week in hand pay comes through and your OH finds something else as quickly as you did. Have you checked to see if you are entitled to higher tax credits? www.entitledto.co.uk or try Citizens Advice who might be able to help with this.

Other than that, all you can do is let creditors know beforehand if you can't meet their full payments. Have all the figures in front of you, so that you sound in total control of your situation! (However out of control it must feel)
Hang in there, here's hoping the crisis soon passes
