Getting a Cheque Book After bankruptcy discharge

Hi,
How long after the first year of bankruptcy and discharge can you you get a cheque book?
Both my partner I went bankrupt last year and it is such a pain when we need to write a cheque out for something my dad has to do it and he lives the other side of the country!
Are there any particular banks that are better than others for getting a cheque book?

VERY slim chance...sorry
although..nothing to stop you asking if the bank can issue a bankers draft instead or arrange a direct transfer from your account to his?We all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -
Not sure about after bankrupcy, but Norwich & peterborough B.S. accepted me immediately after an IVA completion. Full on line banking, cheque book & debit card. May be worth a try.0

No, not for ex br's I am afraid, they gave a basic account with on line banking and a full debit card but no chequebook.0

How long until cheque books are phased out? you might not get one before thatHi, im Debtinfo, i am an ex insolvency examiner and over the years have personally dealt with thousands of bankruptcy cases.

They are still useful for postal purchases and I used to pay my masssage lady by cheque if I hadn't been able to get the cash out for her. I don't think they'll be phased out unless debit card payments become affordable for the self-employed small business person. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

We do pay for most things via debit card or Paypal but my partner has just started playing chess again after a long greak. In order for him to enter Tournaments you have to send a cheque for the entry free which applies to most of the ones held around the UK. They don't offer any other means of payment other than a postal order but then these obviously incur a charge and this would really add up if my partner enters various tournaments during the year.
I have heard that cheques will be eventually phased out but that doesn't help with the fact that there are still some things where paying by cheque is the only option.0 -
Unfortunately this one of the problems met by going br, have you no family or friends who would be willing to send a cheque after you have given them the cash.0

I'm gonna have a thick moment here now.....'scuse me............................................................................................................................nope, it hasn't passed..................
but....seeing as a 'cheque' doesn't have to be written out on a formal 'cheque book'.......I wonder what would happen ifone created one's own cheque, with all the relevant bank acc.no.s and sort codes, etc on it.....and it was 'presented'....what in fact would happen? No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Are you allowed to pay for and enter chess tournaments when you've been made bankrupt?...I thought you weren't allowed to do anything at all as all spare cash must go to the creditors...there was an article about it in Guardian money a few weeks ago...I'm worried as I may have to go for bankruptcy...0
