I think there are some serious questions to be answered by DVLA and you need an explanation as to what exactly has happened. As a result of what has happened the car may incorrectly have an extra keeper showing on the V5C. Once you have received the V5C and taxed your car, you can apply to have the incorrect keeper information removed. An additional keeper can lower the value of your car.
As one of the earlier posters advised, DVLA is supposed to scan all documents as they arrive at Swansea. Hopefully this will uncover how the problems started. The mystery of the unknown keeper should also be revealed when you eventually receive your V5C.
By how much? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
It seems my comment "an additional keeper can lower the value of your car" is being challenged. Do I have any evidence? None that would stand up in court, but if you offered the motortraders I know a choice of two identical one year old BMW 3 series cars, with either two former keepers, or three former keepers, I know which car every single one of them would opt for.
By how much does an additional keeper lower the value? It depends on the car, model and age.
Maybe I should have said a high number of former keepers (on particular makes and models of car) can negatively impact the desirability factor when it comes to selling the car on.
If it was my car and it showed a former keeper on the V5C who hadn't actually owned the car, I would be asking DVLA to correct the information. My advice to Polly Leadbitter would be to do the same.0 -
My Marina has had 17 previous keepers (and a Cat C write-off)
Of course, I would still have bought her if she'd had 18 keepers, but I would expected a better price than I paid (£225)0
