Switching from BT Weekend plan to BT Basic

My father signed up for the BT reconnection at the reduced rate of £30 for a new line with weekend plan. I think this contract is 18 months on the line and 12 months on the calling plan. He should have signed up for and qualifies for BT Basic and I want to save him some money. I have read in the terms and conditions that he can downgrade even in the contract period as long as he qualifies for BT Basic.
Has anyone else done this and did BT kick up a fuss?
Thanks

I doubt if you can do this now that you are in contract-if so you you have to pay the ETC on the existing plan.
BT Basic has no minimum term contract, so people would be able to use it to avoid paying an ETC otherwise, by switching to BT Basic (if they qualify) and then immediately switching again to another package or supplier. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Line Connection Charge for £30.00 Deal – 18 month minimum term.
Customers taking this deal will benefit from a £100.00 discount on the standard line connection charge of £130.00. Available to eligible new and existing customers agreeing to an 18 month contract on the Unlimited Weekend Plan (£13.90 per month), the Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan (£16.90 per month) or the Unlimited Anytime Plan (£18.60 per month). Monthly Call Plan prices quoted include line rental charges (currently £13.90) and are with payment by Direct Debit. Otherwise add £1.80 per month for payment processing fee levied by BT Payment Services Limited, a BT Group company. Discount is via bill credit, which will be applied to your next or subsequent bill. Minimum call commitment applies – you must make at least 10 chargeable or inclusive calls per month (30 calls per quarter). You'll need to pay a charge of £5.15 for every month (if you are billed monthly) or £15.45 for every quarter (if you're billed quarterly) in which you don't make these calls, as compensation for not making the minimum number of calls required. These charges are not subject to VAT and will appear in the one-off charges section of your bill. This deal can only be taken up once during the initial contract period. If you decide to end your contract within the minimum term, you will incur a single charge of £2.50 (on the Unlimited Weekend Plan), £3.00 (on the Unlimited Evening & Weekend Plan) or £5.50 (on the Unlimited Anytime Plan) for each month left of the minimum term. Within the minimum term, you may upgrade your Calling Plan, but you cannot downgrade your calling plan except where you are eligible for, and are moving to BT Basic. Other exclusions and conditions apply. Excludes customers benefiting from some special offers or deals.
I have highlighted the bits that relate to the offer - this is from

The strange thing is I am sure the contract for the calling plan was 12 months on the sign up page and the line rental contract period was 18 months! But here it says 18 months for the unlimited plan.0
