if it is reporting, then there is no need for you to go for a sub prime card like Vanquis, as long as you are making the payments you are building credit history
Catalogue item prices are more expensive than general, so a £400 laptop would probably be £600 from a catalogue! The APR on next is 26.9% too, so a balance transfer to a credit card would certainly be cheaper than that :-)
