Hi,
I am starting a new job next month and am thinking about traveling on the train rather than using my car due to expensive car park charges and the price of petrol, and my new workplace is just a 5 min walk from the train station.
I have looked on the National Rail Enquiries website and it will cost £5.50 return, I will be using the train Mon-Thurs. Are there any kind of Rail Cards / Rail Pass I can buy to reduce the cost?
The only cards I can see on the website are for Students, older people, people traveling with Kids, Disabled people etc.

You do not have to be a student to get a 16-25 Railcard, but that may not help if you are travelling at peak times.0 -
Hi,
Thanks for the link. I don't think the season ticket will save me any money though.
I am traveling from Chesterfield to Sheffield

It is some years now since I commuted by train, but at that time it was cheaper to get a season ticket if you travelled more than 3 days out of 5, or 3 weeks out of 4. It may have changed since then, but I'd double check the figures if I were you.0

If you are prepared to use the bus a Sheffield Megarider is £14 a week. It does take an hour each way though as against 15 to 20 minutes by train.0

A monthly (or longer) season ticket will save you money.
Especially if you understand that a monthly ticket can be bought for any period over a month.
For example, a season ticket from Monday 9 May to Thursday 9 June costs £93.30.
That's nearly five weeks, or counting just Mondays to Thursdays, it covers twenty days of travel.
The equivalent of £4.66 per day.
Don't start the next ticket until the following Monday... no point of paying for days not needed.
With some careful planning, it should be possible avoid paying for annual holidays and other non working periods.0 -
