car tax renewal with home printed isurance certificate

often people try to get their car tax at a post office, using an insurance certificate which does not cover the date the tax runs from.
Hence sometimes tales of insurance certificate being refused at PO counter?
I used to work in a brokers just along from the town's post office, at the end of the month without fail we would have very large numbers of customers come in who would swear blind we had never sent them a certificate. We would issue a covernote so they could tax their car. It got so bad we eventually introduced a nominal admin charge for this.
They were doing exactly as you mentioned taking the wrong documents with them, it was generally the policy schedule they would take with them and rather than go home to pick up the certificate they would come in and deny they had ever received it0
