Hello Fellow money savers,
My friend is in need of some help, and I am wondering if you wonderful people can help? (feel free to move if I am in the wrong place
)
My friend has recently qualified as a beutician, specialising in nails, waxing, massage etc. She made an agreement with a girl who was setting up a salon to hire a section of the salon to do the treatments in.
They agreed to joining together at the begining of February, with the salon due to open on May 5th.
Things were going well with the salon refit, and my friend went ahead and had business cards made, flyers, brochers etc.
She had also started taking bookings to ensure she had work lined up for the next few weeks.
Today she has recieved a message from the girl telling her that she doesn't want my friend in the salon any more. No explanations as to why.
My friend did not sign a contract
. So My question is can my friend reclaim any losses?
(for example for all the business cards and leaflets which feature the salon address?)
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Your friend should ask the salon owner about her change of heart over her renting space especially as costs have been incurred for printing of stationery which is now of no use, ask for a contribution towards the costs. If no contribution is forthcoming then she could try and recoup her money via the courts through the moneyclaimonline service - but she needs to try talking first and follow up with a letter sent recorded delivery confirming what was discussed.
As for the bookings that have been taken could your friend see those clients elsewhere and maybe arrange with another salon to rent some space? No reason wny the current salon should get those clients. In the meantime can she visit the clients' homes or see clients at her own home?
In future she should ensure that if she does have business cards printed that they show her details and not that of any salon where she might work.0 -
Thanks for your help, I will pass it on to my friend.
She has decided to go mobile now, and is in the process of contacting all the clients and organising home visits.
She has tried to contacted the owner, but she is not returning her calls.
My friend has just told me she also attended specific courses at the salon owners request, but had to pay for them out of her own pocket. Can she ask for re-embursing?
Thank you for taking the time to post, my friend and I appreciate your help!Cross Stitch Cafe Member No: 86 :j0 -
Sadly I fear that if there was nothing in writing, it's a case of moving on and knowing better next time! She can ask, but if the salon owner isn't prepared to return her calls and your friend has nothing in writing, I can't see how she'd get anywhere.augustsmummy wrote: »My friend has just told me she also attended specific courses at the salon owners request, but had to pay for them out of her own pocket. Thank you for responding, Savvy_Sue.
I hope she does get somewhere though, it's as though she has been used to promote the salon, then tossed aside.Cross Stitch Cafe Member No: 86 :j0 -
If calls aren't being returned then it may be better to move on rather than spend good money after bad. Hopefully your friend has kept the certificates from the courses she attended because they do belong to her.
The thing with salon rentals is that it always pays to get something in writing before any money exchanges hands or money is spent on business cards etc.
I wish your friend luck with her mobile business - as a tip she could also visit a few wedding venues (ones without spa facilities) and offer her services to them, there may be a few wedding fairs about so it might be worth enquiring about a stand because brides love mobile beauticians. Also think about contacting some exhibition organisers for larger exhibitions because they sometimes have quiet zones where visitors can get a free massage.0 -
Thank you Horace, I will pass those tips on to my friend. I hadn't thought of wedding fayres!Cross Stitch Cafe Member No: 86 :j0
