you know, none of this paying for other people's kids with my taxes seems fair to me... if you all paid for your own my bill would be lots less...

Make sure you save for your retirement then, my kids don't want their taxes to be spent on your state pension.

Isn't it your own personal contributions that help work out your state pension though? If you haven't paid in the relevant allowance, you don't get a full pension?

its a fair point and I guess that your right on that. Ive probably got a bit confused on this point, I was under the impression that the guys tax credits that he gets for his current family are assessed and a proportion of that is distributed to the old family while at the same time the old family dont have to regard this as income thus getting even more tax credits. If that is the case it is a scandle.

No the tax credits etc aren't, but the new family's entitlement to tax credits is assessed on his income including the 20% which they don't have! And the old family don't have to declare that 20% as income, for benefits or tax credits! It's still a scandle! Not one that gets the usual pressure groups or media excited though.

    I am saving hard, thanks.

My point is more that the question comes from a position of absolute entitlement when anything you get above breadline survival in life is frankly a bonus.

No, the system isn;t fair to the OP. But it isn't fair to a lot of people either. If she wants all the cash for her own kids, she needs to pick a father who doesn't have any already.

So by that logic it isnt fair that my taxes pay for hospitals for you to have treatment in etc etc etc

How can you compare the state funding an individual's choice to have children with someone needing essential medical care?

You don't seem too hot on this debating malarky ...
    Gone ... or have I?

It's not put in a special pot just for you - it's the next generation's taxes which will be paying for it. Besides you don't need to pay anything in to get NI credits - you can get them on JSA, you can get them for being a SAH mum, you can get them for caring for a relative, you can get them in a job where you don't earn enough to pay NI.

As well as this if you don't have a full entitlement and no other pension then you can claim pension credit which is much more than the full basic state pension. You can claim winter fuel allowance, free bus pass, and you're likely to need the NHS much more than younger people.

It's the next generation's taxes which are going to paying for all the above. Something which those who whine about supporting "other peoples' kids" need to think about.

PWC's, and NRP's, need to realise that neither can carry on as if they were still together.

I agree, but nrps and nrpps also need to realise that they won't have the same funds to bring up their family as they would have if the nrp didn't have children from a previous relationship however frustrating this is for the nrpp.

None of us can ever be fully prepared for suddenly becoming a single parent - and none of us know what lays ahead of us tomorrow in terms of employment and need for the insurance of our benefits system. yes, I have five children - and I receive child benefit. All other financial needs come from myself and their father (and my ex for one still receiving cs for). However, if we were to find ourselves made redundant tomorrow - would it really be begrudged that we were helped for a short time because we have five children (who we have always provided for) until we were working again? I do agree though with the Canadian benefits system - if you go on benefits and have x number of children, don't go having any more as you will not get more money - you should only be having the children you can afford to provide for yourselves at the time. If you are pregnant and go on benefits, youw ill get help with that child once born, but no more!
  • Another woman whining about the fact she chose to get with someone who already has children. The children were there first they were getting the money first how you feel about it is irrelivent. If you want more money get a job.

I think that might be a *little* harsh, OP is having a good think about when they can afford children in advance of the event which is a nice change!!
