Exactly why if a PWC is on any means tested benefits, there should be an agency (DWP? don't know) which pursues the NRP for the child support - parents need to realise that it is the responsibility of the PARENTS (yup - both of them!) to provide for their children, and not receiving majority of income from the state while letting the NRP off scott free.
    i totally agree.
when i split with my ex in 1990........his opinion was...........if any money i give isnt going to my kids..........then i dont want to give any!

i worked so what he gave me was spent on the kids.
now its gone to the other extreme.
single parents with an ex that wants to support their kids is laughing.
but all kids get to the age of 18 eventually.............

Bingo!!!!! I am surprised at how many people come on here not understanding that their income has dropped when the child becomes an independent adult!

ive spouted my philosphy on here numerous times and it's always ignored lol

i say ok pay for 2 kids
regardless of whether its wtc or ctc. after the first 2, then theyre the parents responsibi;ity
ok free education and heathcare and CB (regardless of income)
multiple births..........natural, then ok they need to be funded.............IVF.....then youre taking the risk upon youself.

low income will get tax credits. for 2 kids.
more than that, then it is a personal choixce
    as i said......i only had 2 kids
    was thAT CHANCE?
    no
I had 2 kids because i made sure i only had 2 kids!

The thing is Nannytone - you and I both work, provide for our kids as well, and unfortunately, don't fit the typical NRP's vision of a PWC.

I do agree with what you suggest above - that's the way it is in Canada as well - don't go having more than you can provide for comfortably on your own, as you won't get extra money for them! I've got five kids, but have always provided for them, - never had to claim 'out of work' benefits and to be honest, if I was to lose my job tomorrow, I still wouldn't get means tested benefits and would have to provide from what we have saved anyways (other than JSA conts based).

the system as it is now, rewards people that have kids that they cant afford.
and then these boards are full of protests of '#benefit basher'
theres little or no personal responsibility.
too bad that i asked my partner to have a vasectomy.
sould do with a couple of kids right now lol

Unfortunately it is the state that decided that maintenance is disregarded and that single parents can claim all means tested benefits regardless of what child support is provided, you will hear on here all day of people splitting up and asking what can i claim, i need help with rent, benefits etc because my OH who works is remaining in the family home and i'm leaving with the kids.

Even if he/she pays £300 pw towards his children as long as the PWC doesn't exceed the savings threshold she/he can also claim all benefits and live extremely comfortable thanks to the previous Government.

There is then no incentive whether financially or not for them to get back togethe rand i'm afraid this is where benefit fraud is more likely to happen.

    I call it greed.....

I do get fed up of people asking how much will i lose if i move in with my girlfriend/boyfriend and why should they lose their benefits.

Is it fair that more likely than not a single parent receiving CM and all means tested benefits will be better off than if she was still living as a couple.

    Rant over
Forums can be/are a good guide to entitlement and it is good practice to back it up with clarification from the relevant department/specialist with written confirmation to safeguard yourself.

its a sad fact that too many people live their lives by 'thge system' rather than do what is right.

and its the childless and singletons that fund it.

No, it's not fair at all. I've actually done a calculation on entitled to.....and with my five kids - one who is independent but living at home, one in university and three under age 12 - keeping my same job, house etc., I would come out £1000 better off per month if I was a single parent, versus what we have as a family with both working and only benefit received is child benefit. Luckily for the taxpayer.....I kinda like having him around :)
