MBNA Help - Paid Early?

Hello All,
I have (for my sins) a card with MBNA. To be frank - I hate them, and if they went bust tomorrow - I would not shed a tear.
Personal stuff aside, I made a payment to them on the 24th March last month, which is the same day as when they produce the statment, but as I get paid, I like to pay my debts straight away.
Today I received a call saying my account is in arrears, and that they want the payment again - as the previous payment was made in effect early and has been taken into the previous months statment. I explained, I know the statment is raised on the 24th - hence paying it on the 24th, albeit, I do not receive the statment for some days after.
I simply cannot afford to make two payments, yet they are demanding a further payment has to be made.
Payments are always made on time, around the same time each month - and I am not late, and have not been for some years - basically I am working to pay it off ASAP.
Do I have a leg to stand on? What can I do?

I suggest you just try calling again and see if a different operator says something different. Be as nice as you can.
Else, I'm afraid you don't really have a leg to stand on. The sequence is clear
1) statement generated - including demand for min payment by a due date
2) you pay
3) due date
4) goto 1)
and I'm afraid you messed up!
Can you do a small BT or even get a cash advance on another card to make up the shortfall? Expensive, but if it digs you out of a hole...0 -
I simply don't have funds to make the payments. Min payment is £87 - I pay £100 each month - now they want £133! That means if I did pay it - I would have paid £233 in one month - I can't do it.0

Try ringing them up again as chattychappy suggests.
If there is no way you can make the payment at all and if you have no luck on the getting a goodwill gesture from then then you'll be stuck with the missed payment charge and a missed payment marker on your credit file.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
You say you don't have the funds, do you also mean you are maxed out? If not, cash advance yourself back £100 (or so) on the MBNA card and use that.
One-off quick fix only of course...
If you go out with friends, can you use your card and get cash off your mates and use that?
All assumes the card is still working..
If you are in trouble then you might need further help. This is written on the basis it really is just a one-off because of the date problem.0 -
The card is no longer used - I agreed not use the card in response to them trying to hike up the APR - so in effect the card facility is withdrawn.0

Ask them to return the payment to your bank details and then you can send it back to them to cover this payment.
They do have the ability to do this.0 -
I didn't think that MBNA credited payments on the same day they were made - there is something on their website that states what day a payment will be credited to your account - something like 2 days.
So if you paid on the day the statement was produced then the payment should not have shown. Are you sure this doesn't relate to a payment received late for the previous month?0 -
What needs to be remembered is that MBNA is one Company which changes the statement date - it is not the same date every month.
An online check would show that the account had been closed and statement issued - if that is available where the account is under the type of agreement the OP has running.0 -

....which is always 4-5 days minimum in reality (from my experience with them).0 -

Faster payments made on a working day before 4pm are credited the same day.
Online debit card payments are credited within 2 working days.0
