Bad credit history in the past....which bank?

Hi
My husband had CCJ's in the past but his record has been clean for years, which bank account would allow him to open an accout? He recently applied for First Direct account but got refused.
He has a Abbey Current Account at the moment - but we wnat to try and reclaim the bank charges for the last 6 years and they may close his account, so need to open another account as a back up.
Thanks

Most banks will offer you a basic account (cash card, no overdraft ect) but some banks offer more on there basic accoun than others - I know that Natwest step account offers a solo card so this isnt a bad one to go for - it might be worth checking your husbands credit file as if the CCJ was more than 6 years ago it wouldnt affect him anymore.0

You could take a look at a Basic Bank Account. Have a look at the new thread regarding Basic Accounts:

Try Citibank, I have just transferred to them and can't rate them highly enough.
I have had major credit problems and still got an account with them, you will get a visa debit card and chequebook.
Good luck0 -

You have to pay in over £1500 per month for this account correct?0 -
No I don't believe you do, you only have to put that amount in if you want an overdraft or a cheque book.
I have heard alot of people getting the account who don't put that amount in. Recently they did do an offer that if you put in £1500 for two months you got a free Ipod, maybe that is where you heard it from.
Apply they can only say no.0 -
Thanks for that. I may fire off an application and see what happens.
I'm not entirely sure I have a CitiBank near me. Are you able to do banking transactions through another high street bank or post office if needs be?0 -
I spoke to them today and they said I could make my deposits at a Lloyds bank when I receive my new account no etc so I presume you can do that.0

Thanks for that info Weller. If your still strugling to get a basic account (this is in reply to your other thread) why not have a look at the other basic accounts offered and try with them.
I still have no idea why you were not accepted for an account with either Natwest or Yorkshire Bank.
To what extent is your credit history adverse? ... defaults, ccj's?0 -
