Cheap way to hide growbags

Options
I've seen the willow growbag surrounds to pretty them up a bit but wondered if anyone has any more economical ideas to disguise them? I'm going to be putting some out which will be on view from the front of the house and would appreciate any ideas.
Thanks,
Kate

Paint them with yogurt and wait for the algae to cover the surface?

The plastic will turn green as the stuff grows on the surface but i`m not sure how long it will take.

  • the yoghurt idea nearly made me heave this morning:eek:
that would be my worst nightmare as i hate the stuff:o

could you not buildsmall frames out of 4 peices of wood and attach log roll around the edge?
ive just built a raised bed for free using old log roll in garden and fence posts which were too large to fit in incinerator!

If you're just wanting to cover the bright plastic, what about wrapping in hessian sacking? Although I'm not sure how cheap you can buy that...
  • I tip the stuff out of growbags and use Morrison's big pots for the actual veg. Can't stand growbags.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I've avoided them in the past and used pots but I want a lot more tomatoes and peppers this year and it works out a cheap and space saving way in our garden.

I'll price up a few bits of wood for surrounds and like the idea of covering a couple in hessian too.

    Thanks again to all,
    Kate

If you're friendly with a good greengrocer, they may have some large hessian sacks which are used for transporting bulk potatoes which you could use by just tucking the growbag in from one end.

Could you just tip all the compost out, turn the bag inside out, and hopefully an acceptable colour, and put the compost back in.

Aren't the insides of these nearly always black? I think that would look ok.

A really inexpensive way is to use some cheap edging of some kind to make a 'bed' for your veg growing and then just pour the grow bag into it. There are cheap wooden log rolls that can be used to this effect too. Other than that, cheaper still, just ignore the fact that grow bags aren't really very attractive!
