bt overcharging, or are they?

Following the earlier newsletter about increased charges again, I decided to look at my latest bill. I was charged nearly £60 for the quarter for line rental + anytime calling. Their web-site suggests I should be paying £55.80 for this service. When querying I was told my old contract includes friends and family, (I have been with them for a few years). Their web site states that the price for that service is £55.80 so I am flabbergasted by their comments. Am I on an old contract? Should I not have relied on them to charge me the "on-going" rate? If I am being over charged then how long might this have been going on for? Cheers all, Mick.

I have every sympathy for you , BT are the worst , why are you still with them when there are better deals around ?

Best check your calls to mobiles too , they like to charge for just dialing the number . I kid you not .;)
  • Noticed a long while ago when mis-laying my mobile they were charging for ringing it for a couple of seconds (no connection) but connection charge applied, they do it all the time, no excuse for the other blatant overcharging though :( Mick ..... or the mobiles come to think of it. Got a brill deal with o2, same product, same phone number, £2 per month more including broadband and reduced by £8.50 for first 6 months (free broad band as an existing customer) X :rotfl:

mick o2 are brilliant and I highly recommend them :)

    Edit Wecome to MSE BTW:):)
  • Question is, how do I get my overcharges back from BT? Do I go to trading standards? Or offcom or their predecessor?

I seem to recall that at least one of the mobile networks flags calls as connected before they are actually answered so that they can charge the incoming call carrier the termination rate.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
