PPI on a mortgage?

My daughter was a first time buyer 6 years ago and the mortgage advisor at the estate agents set up her mortgage with Northern Rock. They insisted she had a PPI even though we rang and said she didnt want it as she got paid for illness etc by her employers. We were told that the mortgage couldnt go ahead unless this insurance was taken out. Does she send in her complaint to the Insurance company even though it was the estate agent that insisted on the insurance (not even sure if the estate agent is still around).

The company that made the sale is responsible for the PPI mis-sale. As the estate agency had a mortgage adviser do the "advice" part you need to look for this esatate agent or the agency they used selling mortgages on their behalf.

If they are no longer around do a search on the internet or contact the FSCS Financial Services Compensation Scheme, they can tell you if the company is till around. You can also check the FSA website to see if they are still around. But you need the full name and the FSA number would be handy too. This would be all on the mortgage documents your daughter got at point of sale.

The mortgage company and the insurer are not responsible, only the company that have advised/sold to your daughter.

When we had reason to make a claim due to his being unemployed we were advised that he had to wind up his business before he could make a claim, this was never explained to us at the time the insurance was taken out.

Surely he has to wind his company up to be classed as unemployed? Otherwise he is just going through a quiet period or having a holiday.
We have since stopped paying the insurance but want to know if it is worth making a claim, and how we should word the letter?

you cannot make a claim unless you are still paying the premiums. I think what you mean is if you can make a complaint. You can. However, its not clear if you have any grounds for complaint.

I have to agree that I cannot see how you can be signing on whilst still trading. Either your husband is committing fraud or you are mistaken on his status.

As a self employed to claim on a policy the person has to wind up their company and be on the job seekers register.

But still some companies refuse to pay out on the unemployment part. In particular if the self employed jobs are: Farmers, Handymen, any trade type jobs like painter decorator plumber builder etc., driver trainers, taxi drivers, in the food trade....

Builders have a hard time claiming if they ever had a doctors visit regarding back or joint pains before taking the policy out. Most builders did have a visit to the docs for a back done in....

Another Legal & General sales rep. Thats the third one this week and its on top of the frequent mentions they get in the insurance section for poor sales methods.

susi, just put your complaint in writing to L&G. You dont need a template and you dont need to write war and peace. You just state what you think they did wrong.

I have a similar question. I bought my house 2 years ago from Persimmon as a new build. They forced me to use Choice Mortgages as a mortgage broker and to take PPI as a condition of the sale.

Would I pursue Choice or Persimmon? I guess I should cancel the PPI as well, but I don't know how to do that.
