Hey chrischris, thank for the link. My defaut value is explorer.exe which is what i thought it would.
Maybe I need to make this clearer but Im not locked out of my pc. I was locked out but then I just pressed next and the trojan dissappeared but I suspect it is still on my system causing explorer.exe to crash. My PC also seems to crash when I try to download any trojan remover software.
Anyway, im going to try RussJK since logs give a more accurrate detail of what is causing my pc to crash and freeze.0 -
Dont you think the best thing to do to stop malware is to stop clicking on the links that cause it - in 20 years of using pc`s i had maybe 2 really bad infections - but still not enough to wipe my hard drive, and i have never found the need to use logs or Malwarebytes0

None of this is relevant to helping a user on a forum asking for help to remove malware currently present on their computer.0 -
everyone has there own way i suppose - good luck to you all, glad i could help0

i wouldn't trust a PC once i knew that it had been infected with malicious software.chrisichris wrote: »Dont you think the best thing to do to stop malware is to stop clicking on the links that cause it - in 20 years me using pc`s i had maybe 2 really bad infections - but still not enough to wipe my hard drive, and i have never found the need to use logs or Malwarebytes
Russ has a point. One exploit may have exposed you to another one. There's no way of knowing exactly what state the machine is now in. You can no longer rely on the integrity of any of the binaries or library files.
If you are using a machine for critical operations, such as online banking, then the only fail-safe thing to do after a compromise is to backup the user files and re-install the whole operating system.
If Windows was half-decent (which it is not) then proper use of disk partitions would isolate the system and userspace binaries from the users' home directories of personal documents. This partitioning would make it childs play to wipe the operating system and re-install it, without affecting the users' files.0 -

OK did a full scan with Malwarebytes
I think it found the trojan. Here is the log:

I think the trojan it detected and removed was the one that was causing me problems right?0 -
So you've already deleted the registry keys and folders from the link that chrisichris posted?
I'd suggest you run a quick scan with the following:
TDSSkiller (http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.exe)
HitmanPro (http://www.surfright.nl/en/hitmanpro)
Also remove this:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [UserHost] C:\Users\Franzoir\AppData\Roaming\svchost.exe
I'd check and remove this, as it's been found in the past to be a trojan by Malwarebytes (false positive?)
O2 - BHO: IDM Helper - {0055C089-8582-441B-A0BF-17B458C2A3A8} - C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Download Manager\IDMIECC.dll
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [IDMan] C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Download Manager\IDMan.exe /onboot
You can decide if you really want these autostarting:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iTunesHelper] "C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Google Update] "C:\Users\Franzoir\AppData\Local\Google\Update\Goo gleUpdate.exe" /c
Don't really need these autostarts:
O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\Run: [Sidebar] %ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\Sidebar.exe /autoRun (User 'LOCAL SERVICE')
O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\RunOnce: [mctadmin] C:\Windows\System32\mctadmin.exe (User 'LOCAL SERVICE')
O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-20\..\Run: [Sidebar] %ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\Sidebar.exe /autoRun (User 'NETWORK SERVICE')
O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-20\..\RunOnce: [mctadmin] C:\Windows\System32\mctadmin.exe (User 'NETWORK SERVICE')
O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-21-1797072915-3679193222-2404170377-1000\..\Run: [Sidebar] %ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\Sidebar.exe /autoRun (User 'UpdatusUser')
O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-21-1797072915-3679193222-2404170377-1000\..\RunOnce: [mctadmin] C:\Windows\System32\mctadmin.exe (User 'UpdatusUser')
Afterwards it might be an idea to do some cleanup with something like CCleaner in order to clear out the temp folders.
Up to you after all this how many scans you want to do before you feel safe
There are quite a few manual scanners mentioned in this thread:
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/31446960 -
I would just like to thank everybody for the help. I will start scanning with suggested tools to make sure. But Im glad I rooted out the trojan in the software.
Hopefully in the future I will know how to tackle problems like this.
Thanks again.0 -
Hey Chrisichris,
The code 27496 is not working anymore. Do you have other codes that I can try??
PS: I tried to login in the safe mode (and dsr mode) and tried to access the registry, nothing works. The error screen appears every time I login regardless of the mode.
Any inputs on how to get around this will be much appreciated!0
