Rug doctor

Help!
Like any other British person who is faced with long holiday weekends I decided to hire a Rug Doctor from B&Q.

I cleaned all of the carpets in my house on Saturday. I left all the doors and windows open by day and put the dehumindifier on by night.

I came in to the house last night and the place smells horrible. Like damp old towels. I pulled the livingroom carpet up and the underlay was absolutley sodden!

What do I do?
I have been on Rug Doctor website and they offer no advice for this.
As you can imaagine by today (Wednesday) the carpet is completely stiking and I don't know what else to do?

Somebody said claim on my insurance as I have accidental damage but it this classed as accidental damage?

Help :(

    Similar problem here:-

...there may be more if you search.

Did you faithfully follow the instructions? ie make sure you extracted nearly as much water as you put onto the carpets?
  • I read the instructions in full (even though they didn't make any sense at that point) and I re-read them again with the machine in situ.
When I had cleaned the carpet, I went over the area with just the vacuum on twice as there seemed to be quite a lot of water still being sucked in to the machine.

I really don;t know what else I could have done. I have folloed the instuctions to the letter.

I would like to say that the carpet is jinxxed as one of the reason's I hired the machine was to try and remove (as best I could) an iron mark from the livingroom carpet :(

    Honestly - next time I won't bother :(
  • Does anybody else have any ideas?
I'm not used to asking insurance people to pay out as I fear they might say no it was my fault?
    What would you do?
I always pay my premiums and never claim anything in fear of it going up!

    Please advise

You will have to have a look at your policy wording to see if you can claim because many policies have an exclusion for cleaning.

Accidental damage is to cover things like knocking over a tin of paint etc - not damage caused by you cleaning the carpet.

If your policy does not have this in exclusions then you may be able to claim.

Exactly the same thing happened to us last year, the smell does eventually go away but it took about 10 days, it was awful, never again

Not necessarily, many years ago tried to make such a claim but was rejected because it occurred during maintenance (i.e. painting) of the house - or some similar reasoning

I should have just been "carrying it into the house after the shopping "
