Rug Doctor

Help!
Like any other British person who is faced with long holiday weekends I decided to hire a Rug Doctor from B&Q.

I cleaned all of the carpets in my house on Saturday. I left all the doors and windows open by day and put the dehumindifier on by night.

I came in to the house last night and the place smells horrible. Like damp old towels. I pulled the livingroom carpet up and the underlay was absolutley sodden!

What do I do?
I have been on Rug Doctor website and they offer no advice for this.
As you can imaagine by today (Wednesday) the carpet is completely stiking and I don't know what else to do?

Somebody said claim on my insurance as I have accidental damage but it this classed as accidental damage?

Help :(

    If you still have the machine, go over the carpets again, this time without putting any water in it, this will suck up the water.
    Or use a wet & dry vacuum cleaner.

  • Thanks but I have tried that as when I was cleaning them I thought there was far too much water coming out!

    I have lifted the carpet off any it is the underlay that has held the water in. The floor itself is concrete with this underlay and couldn't escape anywhere. The house smells rotten so I have taken it all up now in fear of the smell seeping in to my sofa and chair (these are upholstery)

    Should I claim on my insurance?
    Would they say this was my fault and not pay out?
    I never like asking for help as refusal often offends!

    We just rented one out last weekend, it says in the instructions that if its still wet do a "vacuum only" clean. sucks up some of the water. Works pretty well, you'll see the results. If you spent a long time in each "row" you must've put too much water down. This'll help

    I had this same problem a few years ago (although not with a Rug Doctor). No matter how much I used the 'vacuuming' mode only, the carpet still remained really wet. Don't think the machine was that brilliant. Anyway, like you, within a couple of days the smell was horrendous.

    Put a claim in with my insurance company and they sent an assessor around. Thought they might suggest getting a professional company in but the assessor wrote the carpet off and the company accepted the claim.

    You have nothing the lose by putting a claim in. The worst that can happen is they say 'no', but at least you'll know.
