in Credit cards
As the PS3 network has been hacked and security advisers recommend people to cancel any cards they might have registered with PSN, I find it very odd that I had to literally demand with both Flybee and Natwest Bank that they actually cancel and replace my cards.
Neither wanted to. Flybee reluctantly relented and cancelled but they really came across unhappy about it.
Natwest being a visa debit card rather than a credit card was my biggest concern. Their advice, check your account continuously twice a day and if you see anything you haven't authorised, contact our fraud dept.
I phoned back on their phone banking number rather than customer services and the woman agreed to cancel and send me out a new card.
I would have thought that they would have been more than pleased that customers are doing as advised by security people, taking preventative actions for the slight possibility of compromised accounts, however it seems they don't really seem to give a dam????

Martin Lewis is always giving us advice on how to force companies to do things.
How about giving us advice on how to remove ourselves from any part of MoneySupermarket.com
I hereby withdraw any permission Martin might have implied he gave MoneySupermarket.com to use any of my data. Further more, I do not wish ANY data about me, or any of my posts etc to be held on any computer system held by MoneySupermarket.com or any business it has any commercial interests in.

It might be hard to imagine but the actual cost of opening accounts is pretty large.
If they were to on mass do this then the cost would possibly far outweight any potential fraud losses.
PS3 actually stop short of stating to contact your bank to cancel your card and merely remain vigilant and unless there is anything pending that looks iffy on your account i wouldnt bother with blocking your account.
At the end of the day if you insist on the account being blocked for security there is not much they can do apart from accept your request.

As it's the PS3 network thats been compromised and not your card details, it's not really necessary to cancel your cards. The fraudsters don't have access to card details in cases like this. PS3 will advise cards to be stopped purely as a precaution.0

Bear in mind that the card is not yours and neither are the "card details" (as opposed to any personal data). These are a creation of the lenders as a means to access the account. If they allow someone else to access the account because the details have been obtained through a failing of one of their merchants then that's their problem.
I would just let them get on with it.
Agreed it's a hassle for you to dispute payments though.0 -
Don't disagree with any of you.
Just want to be extra cautious. I could imagine a scenario where I hadn't done this, my details were used, then the bank refused to refund me due to me not informing them that I had my debit card registered with PSN at the time the problem was made publicly known.
OK chances are in the long run I would have got everything back, just that I don't want the hassle.Martin Lewis is always giving us advice on how to force companies to do things.

Don't blame you mate.
The one time something like this happened to me, transactions still went through AFTER the card was stopped. So could still have some hassle. Hopefully not though.0 -
The systems in place for CC means that the companies will know the card numbers that are at risk and as the accounts are monitored in real time they would know as soon as anyone tried to use it for fraud, you've done your bit by reporting it but if they say your covered then dont worry0

Do what i do,
If i think my card security has been breached, Phone them up and say you lost your card, Ask for the last 4 numbers to be changed and a new pin code.' You only live once ! Don't live to regret the past, But to enjoy the future '

I see the logic, but I wouldn't do this. Whilst the card has been in your possession, there is no question of your liability for unauthorised transactions unless you have been gross negligent or fraudulent. The Lending Code makes this clear.
If you say the card has been lost, then it raises the question as to how/when it was lost and whether this is connected with the disputed transactions. (Fraud/gross net.) In any case you may become liable for £50 if (further) transactions are timed between when you say you lost it and when you report it. No doubt you would take care of the timing - but if you have done nothing wrong in the first place, why muddy the waters?0
