Credit card that cannot be used for Cash transactions

Hi - this may be a long shot as Credit card issuers make alot of money from cash transactions but does anyone know of a credit card that will allow you to switch off the ability to take cash from an ATM? Its a long story but my second card holder has a gambling prob and has been using his CC to take out cash. The cc was for travel/petrol for his job which is quite significant and we claim back via expenses, would be very difficult if only cash used.

Hi Nudge,

As far as I am aware you can ask the issuer to disable the facility. Have you spoken to the issuer? I may be mistaken, someone more experienced will correct me if it isn't the case.

Barclaycard disabled the cash feature on my credit card with them when I had one.

I didn't even have to ask.

But yes, cash limits are separate to the overall credit limit on most cards so you should be able to ask them to reduce your cash limit to £0

Thanks for replys - I did as my 2 current Card holders - Lloyds and Egg and both said no but maybe because I asked the question about stopping ATM transactions rather than reduce the cash limit.

I'll ask again and if no success try Barclaycard!

Let us know how you get on, I might do this with mine, and as I'm with the same providers it'll be good to know if they do or don't.
