Breakdown Cover needed - vehicle based (2 drivers)

Hi there
Our Norwich Union breakdown cover lapsed a month ago and it's time to get a new policy set up.
We currently have Lloyds TSB Car Insurance, and their Home Insurance too, but it doesn't look like there is any discount for getting a breakdown policy with them too
So, as we have two drivers on a single car, I am thinking vehicle based membership. Our policy last year was obtained with Norwich Union after someone on here discovered a code to get it half price
I've read the thread about the AA and how rubbish they apparently are (they're also quite expensive). I'm after a new policy, and I've looked into the Clubcard Deals side of things with RAC cover and also once again Norwich Union which is £59 for Roadside, Recovery, At Home, Onward Travel. That's vehicle based, does it sound good??
I know there's a company called Auto-Aid (Martin's article) but do they have 24 hour cover and I'm also a little worried about how the recovery is managed if you have to find your own firm
Cheers

Autoaid is heavily recommended on here. Provided you won't forget to claim the costs back, its the best one!! Otherwise, use http://www.moneysupermarket.com/roadsiderescue/ to do a comparison on the competition. If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0

i went with green flag for £31.50 with £20 cashback from quidco bargain
you must already know about quidco with lloyds tsb insurances ,if not check them out0 -
Norwich Union Direct Vehicle Based: Rescue/recovery/at home and onward travel = £54
Why not go back to NU?
I've never been with Green Flag though so can't comment on their quality of service

Just a thought.
If your breakdown cover lapsed, have you specifically cancelled it? Because they might have just charged you for the following year, as alot of Breakdown companies try to do.
In which case, you'd be better sticking with them after cancellation fees.0 -
Hi there
I've checked and they invited me to renew but they never seemed to chase it up
I've looked into Green Flag but they are more expensive than Norwich Union. I wanted something with Home Start and Recovery but they wanted £70ish. And with AutoAid I'd have to get two of us with joint cover which makes it more expensive than most and the home start cover is restricted
Even through Clubcard Deals, RAC is still quite pricey for the Home Start package, don't ask why. I think that Norwich Union still looks like the cheapest option for a vehicle based cover. Any offers still going on them I wonder... :think:0 -

Its free cover for your spouse with Autoaid I have two of us each driving different cars @ £32"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Also try https://www.sharpinsurance.co.uk for Breakdown - might work out cheaper?
They may not have chased you for renewal, but just check they haven't charged

I notice they require a marriage certificate/paperwork  :rotfl:Optimist wrote:Its free cover for your spouse with Autoaid I have two of us each driving different cars @ £32
I'm probably going to phone up NU and get it done through them again

  I've been with the AA for the last ..ehmm quite a few years.
i have had reason to call them out twice within the last 10 months or so:
Once they arrived in 19 minutes, the other time within 18 minutes. They texted me to say the guy would be with me in xx minutes (arrived before the allocated time) both times very couteous , helpful and sorted me out.
They have been superb.
I'd LOVE to hear reccomendations for a service that can better this standard of service - if there is one they must be ****ing unbelieveable.
AA Rubbish
me thinks someone out there is clinically Insane Hate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing
Do little and often
Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying :mad:0 -
Try getting AA to recover you after an accident. They'll want to charge you for it, and although this may be claimed back as long as the other driver is not uninsured or drove off, it still isn't a nice thing to hear when you're in despair at the roadside and hear "yep, that's £85 to recover your vehicle please". :rolleyes:judderman62 wrote::eek:  I've been with the AA for the last ..ehmm quite a few years.
