Home Insurance Needed But Will Be Away Traveling For 3 1/2 Months

My Mother in Law intends to visit her two sons in Oz later on this year and wants to go for 3 1/2 months. Does anyone know how she can get home insurance to cover her for her house whilst she is away as it doesn't seem to be clear if anyone provides this. Her current insurance allows her house to be 'unoccupied' for a period of 30 days and the only way to ensure that this wouldn't be breached seems to be if someone stays overnight to 'reset' the 30 day limit.

Does anyone know if there is a better way to do this?

The "30 day" clause is pretty standard across most domestic policies. All you can really do is call the insurance company and ask them. It may well be that they'll provide cover for a small extra fee. Or it may be that having a neighbour popping in every other day would satisfy them. But you need to check with them, the last thing you want is for the worst to happen only to find you're not covered.

If it's going to cost a fortune to insure, then you could look at getting a house sitter. Obviously this is going to cost, and to be honest I'd be surprised if it actually worked out cheaper than paying the extra insurance, but it's something to bear in mind.
