we only have a tesco, lidl and iceland, there are a few things i only buy in iceland and if i'm there i get milk and bread there as it's cheaper, i only go to lidl if i see something on offer i can use, and i do an online shop then write a list before i go to tesco, so i know how much it will cost but my first stop is always the reduced sections and i adjust my list accordingly, i also agree you need to be careful with those quick nips to the shop

nsd today even tho i have no milk will get some in the morning along with some bananas and a bag of spuds , undecided about what to have for lunch, was going to make carrot and lentil soup to use up my carrots but theres no room in the freezer for the rest so i might wait a few days

I have always paid my supermarket bills on Tes cc so I get the points that I put towards deals. I have been toying with the idea of withdrawing cash for the month and paying the bills with that - on the grounds that 'when it's gone it's gone'

Has anyone found this a better way of working or should I stick with the cc? My month starts 1st of the month so I would need to get the cash before my next shop. Any thoughts would be welcome.

    Sue

Am doing this for the first time this month to see how it goes. Drew out the whole months allowance in cash bit worrying to have it hanging around the house. I have put it into a separate purse for grocery shopping and I must admit take more notice as you can see the fund diminishing each shop - hopefully it will make me more careful.

Can you put me down for €400 again for May please Mrs MaCawber?

I was over, somewhat, for April, but DH will be away on business for the month, while we are also getting an au pair, so I don't really know if that is the right amount for the month. We shall see. (Apparently she can cook, so it might actually be ok).

The plan for this week is very rough yet - boiled bacon tonight, macaroni cheese with leftover bacon tomorrow, and then working from the freezer (I have mince, a spag bol, a chilli, a curry, and I think I have burgers there too). I don't think I need to spend anything until mid-week at least.

I also experimented over the weekend. I was making naan breads for a curry night in, (which i burnt - stupid me! We still ate them), and used the rest of the packet of yeast to make a farmhouse loaf of white bread. Not the most successful (I think I should have used less flour), but still edible. I still have 3 sachets of yeast to use up (all out of date but only a few months) so will use those in the next few weeks.

Spend of €96 over the past few days (Mr Dunnes and Lidl) to add to my sig though.

    Some thought-provoking posts.

I think I redeemed myself after the Fruitshoot debacle yesterday :D, by reusing the bottle filled up with dilute squash for our visit to the park.
I also made some ice lollies from squash, looking forward to those later.

We'll need some bread for tomorrow, but as I need to get back into the habit of using the breadmaker and try out using oil instead of butter, that shouldn't be any problem. :)

Hope everyone is staying out of the shops and enjoying the sunshine today. :)

Am declaring May budget of £70.00 This is for me and the cat.

Will try to do better than last month! (Though without this challenge, I would definitely have spent far more. )

Just to add - my system is to have a specific purse for housekeeping - my £70 has gone in there, and must last until the 31st.

Wish me luck - and good luck everyone else!

I just made the lentil and bean loaf which smells very nice - is cooling before slicing and freezing for easy meals over the next few weeks

Also having the beef stroganof for tea

All recipes from the front page on this challenge and thanks for putting them on for help to work out what to use up and make. I have bags of dried beans and lentils so it was good to find this recipe to use some of them up!
