I was paying too much afetr all :-)
I have just been plodding along for a year paying my gas and electricity by DD. I was paying £70.00 a month in gas and £45.00 a month in electric. People kept telling me I was paying too much but until recently when I have come into financial difficulty I haven't done anything about it. Well today I called them up and not only have I managed to cut my gas down to £45.00 a month and my electricity to £40.00 but I also got £60.00 refunded into my bank account, woohoo!
Just thought I would share this with you on the hope of encouraging more of you to make sure you are not paying too much before it is too late :-)

Before borrowing money from a friend, decide which you need most.
You cannot spend your way out of recession or borrow your way out of debt

Who are you with? What is your annual usage in kWh? What region do you live in?
I bet you or I could get it even lower by switching to an online managed monthly direct debit tariff.
If you were paying £115 per month but only used £85 per month then after 12 months your refund should have been £240.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Sorry I should have said that I also got a refund just before xmas but thought that was with just not using much during the summer months last year. I am now managing online, but will definitely still see if I can get cheaper elsewhere. I am with Scottish Hydro Electric for both. Before borrowing money from a friend, decide which you need most.
