Searching for particular wood moulding

Hi. I looking for some moulding and I don't think I know the correct name for it, so when searching online I can't find it. When I do find some, the size is a lot smaller than I need.

I've been sanding down the skirting board, around the windows and doors. If you look at pic01 I decided to take off the moulding and plan to cut new ones because I didn't fancy having to sand them down.

Does anyone know the name of what that is called, or where to buy it? A similar moulding if found around the inside door frame, see pic02.

I've put some measurements of a cut piece in pic03.

Thanks for any help.

(Looks like I can't post links to my hosted pictures as I'm a new user. Could any help us out? I could PM you the 3 links and you could post underneath. Cheers)

You could try a local joinery manufacturer. I did this some years ago when I was renovating a period house. Some idiot had ripped out some of the mouldings and half the plate shelf (the delft rack that some house used to have). None of this stuff was available off the shelf but a local company offered to make up the cutter for their spindle moulder (often called dado cutters). The cost was not really significant at all and made a big difference to the renovation of the house.
Try finding a small owner-operated local business, the kind of person who makes custom windows or staircases. Kitchen people are too greedy, find out who local builders use for non-standard jobs.

check all the skips in your area.
often you will find similar items in skips when peeps are "improving" their homes.
    Get some gorm.
  • Thanks for the replys. The mouldings weren't original, which is why I chose just to take them out and saving my fingers from sanding.

I'd love to find the wood in a skip but it would have to be the luckiest skip out there, im after 24m odd. I'll head along to some local companies to see if they can help us out.

    Cheers.
  • I had my query posted on another forum and the name I was after was a "Bolection moulding". Just incase anyone was wondering. :)
