Hi everyone, been and bought myself a dslr camera i wanted today or so i thought till i got the thing home and opened the bag. Inside i found a nice surprise,a better model valued in the shop at £300 more than the 1 i wanted and i don't know what to do. The mrs says i wont get any sort of warranty from the shop and when i register for the Nikon 1 online she says they ask for the receipt/proof of purchase. Is this right? If so the receipt doesn't tally with the camera i now have. Do i have any sort of rights to go back,be cheeky and ask for a new receipt for the mistake they made or can they take the camera back off me?? Should i keep it or be the good lad and take it back and try wangle some free goodies lol? Help please

Either.
Use it and sort it out if you need to use the warranty or take it back.
You decide.
Be prepared for a volley of abuse now, as people tell you to do the right thing and point out that if you had been given a camera that was of lower value, you'd have been straight back to the shop.
But ultimately, it's your decision as an adult to make.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
That isn't a technical question it's a moral one.
You probably won't have any warranty but they are rarely needed anyway.
Whether or not you take it back is a question of morality and conscience - only you can make that decision imo.0 -
put it this way, you have a camera there built of high quality, and provided you look after it and use the correct batteries recommended then you should not need the warrenty. after the 12months period is up, phone nikon and purchase extended warrenty.
you will get people jump on you here saying that youve practically stolen it and should return it, but will a shop rectify change after youve left it? a shop has to check you have the correct product before you walk out with it and check the order.0 -
At the end of they day it is your decision
It always makes me laugh how people are quick to lay the blame on the company saying they should have checked, but as pointed out, if it was of lower value then you would have flew back to the shop
Personally I would take it back. I have done things like that in the past, such as finding cash hanging out of an ATM before (£100) and returning it into the bank
I think it is a sad fact of the world we live in that more people would keep the thing, blame the company and laugh. I think you are seen as stupid, an idiot, weak etc if you do the right thing *shrugs* or maybe that is just how I see it
Anyway sorry a little off track. I say return it. If they decide to let you keep it then fine and well done youThere are 10 kinds of people that understand binary
Those that do
Those that dont

I just wanted to add my tuppence here....
I read a thread on the Consumer Rights board a few minutes ago and immediately thought of this one. The poster started a new job the other day, but is now being threatened with being sacked or having to pay back hundreds of pounds because he accidentally put the wrong camera into the box for a customer. So whatever poor soul made the mix up that has left the OP with a more expensive camera may well be having to stump up £300, or could lose their job.0 -
Looks like the bloke that made the mistake is in the very real danger of losing his job over this. Check out the "do I have any rights" thread on the consumer rights board. Please return it.One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

There's no sense crying over every mistake.

Who is? This thread was started first. And the op of the other thread didn't give all the info straight awayOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

I'm a total cynic and I would guess the same person made the post on here and the consumer rights boards just under different user names.
In support of my cynicism I note the OP of this thread explicitly state he bought the thread "today" but the time of the post was 8:40am. Seems a little bit early in the day to be going out, buying an expensive camera and then getting back home and posting about it.
Also it just seems to much of a coincidence that both him and the shop assistant both posted about it on here. There's no sense crying over every mistake.

Yeah, spotted the today thing as well. But it's a very good troll who would string out the details in the other thread as well as wait seven hours before starting it.One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0
