Dogs ate a jar of Mayo...

Hi. Arrived home before to find some glass on the kitchen floor, and upon further inspection, it turned out to be the remains of a jar of light mayonaise that they'd somehow got hold of! I don't even remember leaving it out for them to get, as I'm usually very good at dog-proofing the kitchen before I go out!
Have I anything to worry about? It was a pretty big jar (800g) and it was pretty full... They are both rotties

YES!
I would contact your vet for advice the mayo prob isn't a big problem - although it could possibly make them sick?
I would be most worried that they had eaten glass from the jar too if they were busy scoffing it quick."Things can only get better.................c/o D:Ream #The 90's"

Your likely to find the dogs are sick and/or have the runs. If there is any blood in their stools then phone the emergency vet immediately as that may indicate the dog has consumed glass - you should thoroughly examine the dogs gums to check for any signs of laceration.
Mayo isn't a problem for dogs until consumed in large quantities. It is very fatty and likely to make a dog ill - vommiting or the runs. It may also contain high levels of salt so you should check this very quickly as just like humans, dogs can suffer ill health through consumption of too much salt. The only other major fear is that the dog is allergic to anything in the mayo itself - egg allergies for example do exist in dogs just as they exist in humans.
You should contact a vet as soon as possible to discuss the matter with them but try not to panic yourself in the mean time. Should the dogs show any sign of ill health then phone an emergency vet immediately. In the mean time, ensure that they have adequate water to drink.0 -
Thanks for the replies. Have checked gums and pads for any cuts, and there's nothing. So far, just slightly runny poos, but nothing else. They've got plenty of water, so that's not an issue. There's absolutely no change in their behaviour (yet), but I'll certainly be keeping an eye on them!0

Reminded me when I got home to a floor covered in blood only to discover that Zara 9as a pup) got hold of a big tube of tomato puree...
Another time it was a tube of black shoe polish - THAT was a nightmare to get off the furniture....
Mayo is nothing to compare- as long as they have not got any glass inside them.
Next time buy the squeezable tubes LOL0 -
Get them to the vet ASAP - my dog did this last year with a smashed jar of jam - no cuts I could see, but an x ray at the vets showed a shard of glass in her stomach - cue emergency op to remove it and flush her insides out before it moved into her intestines and caused internal bleeding.0

Rang vet for advice with the Lab when she was a pup- I'd put the coffee machine on and it exploded (thankfully I'd just walked upstairs). She'd managed to lick up a fair quantity of coffee by the time I got down. Had been worried about glass, but she was fine. Worst was watching her literally climb the walls for two days- not a thing we could do about it.
I've seen her attempt to eat pretty much everything- paint, concrete blocks, a jar of vinegar she knocked off the counter. There's a huge banned list now, and we're careful to tidy away- though the eat anything stage seems to have outgrown now.
Get them to a vet and checked out, even if for your own piece of mind.0 -
the glass would be an issue but may expect lots of sick, ours ate a whole pack of butter a few months back, he was sick for ages due to the fat i think0
