Homebase rip off!!

Was in Homebase looking at the Chrimbo decs as it said "Up to 20% off" (always like a wee bargain) - only to find out the prices were obviously inflated in the first place!!! eg. pack of baubles original price £6.25 and with all singing all dancing discount £4.99. Similarly, things originally priced at £1.19 down to 99p!! How convenient that with the discount they looked like 'normal' prices 1.99, 4.99 etc!!
What a RIP OFF!!
Okay, rant over..

Yes it does make you cross - buy them in the sales after christmas . Never buy paper or decs before christmas.
I just buy the novelty decs with childrens names on before christmas so the kiddies can put them on their tree. Everything else - in the sales0 -
I have always found Sainsburys homebase to be expensive, for everything. The company they took over,(oh damn, their name eludes me,begins with T!!I think) help someone!! well we bought a kitchen from them and it was very reasonable, paid it over three years interest free, and it lasted 12 years.
Always use Great Mills or Focus now.0 -

It was Texas.
My memories of them were riding off into the sunset wearing big hats and saddlebags of their customers' cash.
A retailer I was glad to see go but it's good to hear your kitchen outlasted them!0 -
I posted about the same thing they did with lawnmowers sometime earlier this year.
Same '20% off' so went in ready for a bargain but found the one I'd seen before Xmas for £79.99 was now £105.99 with a 20% discount bringing it back down to the original price. IIRC the figures didn't even match up - it was actually more than 20%. Manager had all the standard excuses about prices being different for lawnmowers in winter, the higher price would've been used in a higher store somewhere in the country, the offer meant 'at least 20%' not '20%' etc etc. Head office just fobbed me off with a standard reply too.
Virgin used to do the same thing with DVDs too a few years ago in their 'sales' - 2 for £30 on DVDs they'd usually be selling for £15 each but had suddenly gone up to £20 each.0 -
Yep, 'real' sales seem to be few and far betwen these days, which is a shame. Yet another rip off.DFW Nerd 0350

hang about
the higher prices by law have to be sold & displayed at a higher price in the stores for at least 28 days prior to the "reduction" If you are sceptical you can always ask them for proof of where the item was at a higher price ( doesnt have to be *your*store, it can be one in the chain somewhere else)
If you are unsatisfied with this, take it to trading standards Im fairly sure its the sale of goods act. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I have been to Homebase and another bargain store when I had to buy a lot of stuff for home.
Now i have seen same products from probabaly same manufacturers (marked as own brand). You can easily see how similar the quality/manufacturing etc was.
But the prices seems to be almost double at Homebase. with a 10% discount (WOW). I swore I would never go to Homebase ever and have kept my promise for 6 months now....0 -
Sadly it's common retail practice. Debenhams are one of the worst for this sort of activity. As someone who works in one of John Lewis's buying offices I can safely say that at least their sales (or Clearances as they call them) are 100% genuine - no Debenhams style "price establishment" lines.0
